Here's the latest chorus info! Braves Tickets Braves tickets are still on sale! Nearly 50% of our seats are gone now. Field trip forms are due March 31, but tickets can still be purchased through July 18. Click here for more info. New York City Trip Announced in class today, we are traveling to NYC March 21-24, 2024! Students will participate in a choral workshop with Broadway artists next year! We will also get to tour parts of NYC and see two Broadway shows! Click here for the preview presentation. Please note that more details will be released in April. I will be able to answer questions during that time, and at our parent meeting. We are still waiting on airfares to be published along with the Broadway calendar. Spring Show Attire Requirements - Grey 2023 chorus t-shirt (“music staff/leaf” shirt) with NON-RIPPED, full length jeans & sneakers/tennis shoes. - Do you need the 2023 Brookwood Chorus T-shirt? Please pay your chorus dues to get the shirt. Chorus dues were paid back in August 2022 and include the chorus shirt. I ordered shirts back last semester for everyone who gave me a shirt size, so I have shirts for folks who haven’t paid yet if you gave me your shirt size. - If you have not paid for your chorus shirt/chorus dues yet, please go to eClass and find the chorus dues link, or CLICK HERE. Augusta University Visit The Augusta University Singers will be performing for chorus students and holding a Q & A session on March 14, 2023 during 5th period. All chorus students are invited to the theatre for this performance. Students are responsible for all missed work during this time. One of our chorus alums, Abigail Joseph, is part of this ensemble! Concert Uniform Reminder: Formal Brookwood Chorus concert attire is required for the pre-LGPE concert (February 28) and the LGPE field trips. View the formal uniform policy by clicking here. All late concert uniform orders are handled on a individual basis between the ordering student and the uniform supplier. LGPE Trips (Impacts ALL Chorus Students) All Chorus classes are performing at Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE) on March 7 or 8, 2023. A permission form was sent home on February 10, and was due February 15. I will accept late forms through February 24. Students can check Google Classroom to see if their permission form has been turned in. Click here to access the form, along with relevant details. 4th & 5th period students will finish LGPE after the school day, and will need to be picked up. Please read for details. We are in need of chaperones to help make this trip a success! The chaperone form should only be returned if a parent/guardian can chaperone, but all students should return the code of conduct form. Welcome to 2023! There are a few items for me to share as we begin this second semester: Registration It’s almost time to register for the 2023-2024 school year! Current 9th-11th grade students will register for classes at the end of this month. I look forward to seeing our chorus students return next year as we build upon the music and skills we are working on during our current school year! Treble voices (Soprano/Alto) who are interested in auditioning for our advanced class (Cantabile) should sign up for an audition. Audition times are posted in the chorus room. Auditions start next week and continue into the first week of February. In the meantime, make sure to register for chorus so that you’re eligible to audition. Treble Chorus students who are currently in 4th period/Cantabile remain. Treble Chorus students who do not audition will be placed into 3rd period/Rhapsody chorus. Tenors & Basses remain in 5th period chorus. Do you know someone who loves to sing, but isn’t in chorus? Please make sure to send them to me! Do you know an 8th grade student from Five Forks or Crews who likes to sing? Make sure they register for Brookwood Chorus as well! Call time for students - 5:30pm. 4th Period arrives at 5:30pm, 2nd & 3rd period arrives at 5:35pm, 5th Period arrives at 5:40pm. Students are required to be on time as part of their grade. I strongly suggest leaving & arriving early, as traffic might create delays. Students & audience members should enter the front Sanctuary Entrance. Do not use the Welcome Center entrance, as that is used for voters. The back of the church will not be open; please walk around to the front of the church Sanctuary – see picture. Seating We expect a full audience for this concert, as the 8th graders from Crews & Five Forks will be performing with us. I am told the church sanctuary seats just over 800 people. Should the need arise, parent volunteers will bring out additional folding chairs. GCPS TV I am excited to announce that this concert will be recorded for later broadcast by GCPS TV as part of their Sounds of the Season program. Selected songs from the concert performance will be broadcast on GCPS TV starting December 15 through January 2, at 2 & 8pm each day. You can also stream online and on demand. Atlanta Braves Performance I have secured August 1, 2023, for Brookwood Chorus students to perform the national anthem at the Atlanta Braves (Truist Park). Yes, this is the day before the first day of the next school year. I have been trying for a couple of years to get us on their calendar, and this was our only option until we become a returning group and get more preferred dates. I will share additional details once I get them from the Braves before we leave for break. Students will have to be enrolled in chorus for the 2023-2024 school year to participate. Special exception will be given to this year’s current Seniors (class of 2023). Congratulations! The students listed below earned a score high enough to pass the first round of All-State Chorus auditions! These students auditioned with thousands of chorus students across Georgia in mid-November, and we received cut off scores recently. Students were evaluated on a memorized solo performance, scales, and three sight reading examples. Congratulations!!! Friendly Feast
Chorus Friendly Feast is Thursday, December 8 @ 6:30pm in the Maroon Gym Lobby. Friendly feast is a pot-luck style dinner just for chorus students, along with a holiday cookie decorating contest. Each class is assigned a type of dish to bring. Dish/drink sign ups will be posted by Thanksgiving Break on google classroom. I am proud of our chorus students' performance at our fall concert, and excited about what is coming up next this semester!
Combined Chorus/Orchestra Concert Who: 4th & 5th Period Chorus Classes only (test grade for those classes) What: The Brookwood Chamber Orchestra, Cantabile & Forte Choruses are combining to perform in November! Our music is connected to the theme of hope. When: Monday, November 7 Time: Call time for performing students: 5:05pm. Concert starts @ 6pm, doors open at 5:45pm. Where: Brookwood HS Theatre Attire: Formal Concert Attire Required after school rehearsals: Nov. 1 & 3, 2:20-4pm. The second rehearsal may be shortened or cancelled *if* we're ahead of schedule progress wise. These rehearsals are to practice with the Orchestra. District Honor Chorus Selected students are performing in Athens, GA October 21-22! Good luck and break a leg (figuratively) to those students! Information was sent home already with those students, and is available on eClass as well. All-State Chorus The All-State Audition 1 schedule has been posted in the chorus room for those students who were accepted to audition. Our fall in-person concert is next week! Here are a few details/updates: Required Afterschool Rehearsal (Test Grade) Monday, September 26 - Starting at 2:25pm Location: Brookwood Theatre After reviewing our progress from the previous week, I've determined that not everyone will have to stay for the entire length of the rehearsal. Students are welcome to stay and watch the rest of the rehearsal quietly instead of leaving early. All students should leave via the Maroon Gym/Theatre Lobby entrance (car riders). Students do NOT need to wear the chorus uniform. 2nd Period - Dismissed by approximately 3:25pm. 3rd Period - Dismissed by approximately 3:40pm. 4th Period - Dismissed by approximately 3:50pm. 5th Period - Dismissed by approximately 4pm. Honors Chorale will rehearse until about 4:15pm. Photographer We are looking for a photographer to take pictures during our fall concert! If you would be willing to help out, or know someone I can reach out to, please email me, and thank you! Call Time for students: Students will need to report in concert uniform for warm-up by 5:15pm. Cell phone usage is strictly prohibited during the concert. Looking for: A photographer to take pictures during the concert (stage light environment) and after the concert (year book pictures). Email me ASAP if you can help or know someone who can! Fall Dress Rehearsal – Required/Test Grade Date: September 26, 2022 Location: Brookwood Theatre Time: 2:25pm-5pm. The vast majority of students will *not* need to stay for the entire rehearsal time. Approximately one week prior to the rehearsal, I will send out a schedule based on the progress we make in class over the next couple of weeks. 2nd period students will more than likely be released prior to 4pm; 3rd period students released prior to 4:20pm; 4th & 5th period students will be released prior to 4:30pm. Chorale students will be released last. Stay tuned for a more exact schedule. Cell phone usage is strictly prohibited during all rehearsals. Students do not need to wear formal concert attire for the dress rehearsal. Uniform Update If your child ordered uniform pieces, they were distributed in class on Friday, September 9. District Honor Chorus We are waiting results from GMEA regarding who was accepted to GMEA District 13 Honor Chorus. You will know when I know! No payment is due yet for impacted students.
